FAST News - Upcoming Meet info - Chaperones Needed

Hello everyone,

FAST has 4 meets left on the schedule for the season and we are looking for chaperones for each of them. If enough chaperones cannot be found for the meets, they will become Parent meets with the parents being responsible for their own swimmers travel and lodging. Please consider being a chaperone as it potentially allows more swimmers to attend the meets at a lower overall cost. Lodging and travel costs are covered for chaperones. We already have a couple of volunteers for Calgary, but if you would like to attend this one, let us know and we will put your name in the hat. All responses should go to Julie MacDonald at ajulie.macdonald@gmail.com. A permission slip for the Saint John meet will be sent out shortly.

We are looking for chaperones for the following meets.

Sping Long Course Classic ("B" Standard required and swimmer must be 11 years old on the first day of the meet)
Saint John, NB
May 23rd - 25th
2/3 chaperones

Grand Prix Montreal (Quebec Cup standard required)
June 18th - 23rd
1 chaperone

East Coast Long Course Championships (East Coast time standard required and swimmer must be 11 years old on the first day of the meet)

Halifax, NS
July 3rd - 6th

Age Group Nationals (Age Group National standard required)

FAST News - Volunteer grids and last minute instructions - Help needed for setup and takedown

Hello FAST families,

Please find attached the latest volunteer timer and official grids for the Marianne Limpert.  Please check these grids to make sure I have you down for the sessions you indicated.  If there are any errors or changes to what I have down please be sure to let me know.  It is important that we have an accurate list.

We are still short of timers so if you can be available for an extra session, please let me know.

Here are a few reminder to all our fantastic volunteers

-          Please be sure to attend all the sessions you have sign up for.

-          Please arrive at least 45 minutes before the start of the session ( session times are attached)

-          Please check in with Jenny Adam or Michelle Reid (the official coordinators) in the officials room (A116) when you arrive.

-          There will be opening ceremonies on Friday evening so all officials and timers are asked to be sure to arrive early.  We will be lining officials up for the walk on at approximately 5:15pm.  The official coordinator will assist everyone to line up in the right order.

-          Please try to wear a white t-shirt if you are timing or officiating.  We would especially like the officials on deck for the opening ceremonies (Friday evening) to be wearing white t-shirts

The set up for the Marianne Limpert Meet will start at 3:00 pm on Thursday.  Tables, Chairs, Lane ropes, Starter podium etc need to be put in place prior to warm-up at 5:00 pm.   Please let me know if you are available to help me with the set up.  Thanks.

The take down happens immediately after the last session.  Everything in reverse…chairs need to be stacked, tables folded etc.  It is really nice to have help with this after the long meet.  So if you can help please let me know.  Thanks

Thank you to all the FAST families who have volunteered their time.  FAST could not host this meet without your help

FAST News - Tracadie Fun Meet - Message from Paula

Hello FAST Families,

The sun is finally here!!  We will be heading in to the last portion of our season after the Team Championships next weekend.  There are a few key swim meets remaining in the year and you will be getting information to sign up to attend in the near future.

The FUN Meet in Tracadie on May 10th is a great meet for newer swimmers and the 12 and under swimmers with the club.  If you have not attended a meet yet this year this a really great one to start with.

This will also be the last racing opportunity of the season for anyone without B qualifying standards.
Please take a look at your schedules and see if this may be a meet you can attend.

Information for other meets will be coming out soon as well.

Thanks,
Paula

FAST News - Update from Interim FAST Head Coach / UNB Head Coach - Paula Crutcher

Hello FAST Families,

I have just returned from a fantastic Olympic Trials in Montreal.  Canada is swimming better than ever and our country is excited about getting faster!!  Our team is part of this atmosphere and I know that we can be a positive addition to the success of swimming in Canada!!!

I have been involved with FAST since 1998 and I am very excited to have the opportunity to step in and make some waves for the next few months.  I have taken on the Head Coaching role for the program with very short notice so there may be some hiccups and stumbles for the first few weeks so please bear with us. My goal is to have swimmers excited about swimming, have families excited about swimming and have a positive and energized environment for the FAST team moving in to the future with a new Head Coach.  We have a great program here in Fredericton and we have an opportunity to be one of the best teams in the country.  This will only happen if we are able to work together and dream big for our team and our swimmers!!!

There will be some changes happening over the next few weeks and months and please be assured that the changes are being made to pull our team together and find ways to make things work in a positive way for our swimmers, coaches and families.  With any changes there are some set backs and we will make sure to keep on top of anything that may not be working out or turns out to not be a positive move for the program.

Our goal is to have the changes all be positive for our swimmers and I think you will see that my goal is to have every athlete be excited to be at the pool, excited to swim FAST and having fun.

Please free to contact myself or a member of the executive if you have any questions or concerns.  I am looking forward to a great summer and the future of FAST swimming!!!
