FAST Fishes Registration cancelled this evening

Due to a chemical spill at the Lady Beaverbrook Gym, the building has been closed and we are unable to go ahead with the FAST Fishes registration this evening.

If you know of anyone who plans to register their children in this program, please let them know. There is no news at this point regarding when the building will re-open. Please stay tuned for more information.

Hopefully we will be able to go ahead with the registration again tomorrow evening as scheduled.

News from Head Coach Marta

Dear Swim Family,

I would like to welcome all new and returning swimmers and swim families to what is going to be yet another successful year of competitive swimming. There has been a lot happening 'behind the scenes' during the summer break and it looks as though 2008/09 is going to be another exciting year…. For the Swimmers AND for the Parents! It is my pleasure to introduce to you new ideas and changes for this season.

This year we will be introducing a revised pre-competitive program called Fast Fishes, designed for kids age5-9. This is a fun/introductory program to competitive swimming with a strong focus on teaching proper strokes, technique and all aspects of competitive swimming. This program runs in 10 week session with 2 water practices per week.

Our competitive program is also redesigned. Some changes will be implemented this upcoming season including new group names, improved group transition, guidelines for each group and a new schedule.

We are introducing new group names this year. We will have 3 distinct swim groups-Novice 1 and 2, Age Group 1,2 and 3 and National. We are also implementing new guidelines for each group with criteria that will be helpful for moving swimmers from one group to another. Please note that coaching staff will have the final decision in moving swimmers to a different group.

The practice schedule is a little different this upcoming season to reflect the changes with groups and number of hours for each group. I think you will find a better progression for each swimming level in both the number of practices and number of hours per week.

Registration will be held on Sept 8th 2008. Location and time-TBD

Start date-Sept 15th 2008-all competitive groups

Sept 30 2008 Fast Fishes and Fishes Advanced

Please watch out for registration email with more details on groups, schedule and meet calendar.

In the first two weeks of October we will be inviting parents of each group for a parent meeting with Marta and coaching staff.

One key element that will help us in this transition to new season is open communication. It is very important for all of us to keep it open as much as possible. We encourage all swimmers and parents to open dialogue. If you have any questions regarding program please feel free to come forward and direct them to Marta or Paula or the Board. We will be more then happy to discuss any questions or concerns.

Once again welcome to a brand new season.

Wishing you successful 2008-2009 swim season….

Coach Marta (Enjoy the Olympics!)
