Fast Letter to City Officials
Hello Swim Families;
Please refer to the attached letter that will be issued to City
officials as well as the Daily Gleaner in the next few days. It
expresses our collective concerns regarding the future of aquatic
facilities for our City. More specifically for FAST; the need for a new
multi purpose facility when the Sir Max Aitken Pool at UNB is eventually
decommissioned. This will ensure continuity of competitive swimming in
Fredericton.
The letter is intended to raise awareness of our concerns with City
officials. As well, it is important that the recreational master plan
for the City includes plans for aquatic facilities for all current and
future user groups. There is a place for each swim family to sign the
letter if you wish to forward a copy on.
I encourage all of you to speak to your councilors and community leaders
to raise the level of awareness on this issue. Collectively, we are a
powerful voice and will get progressive support on this important
opportunity.
We will be formally meeting with several officials, politicians in
the near future as well.
This is a critical issue for our swimmers.
Thanks
Michel Losier
President, FAST

FAST Meeting: Future of Pool
We will be having an important meeting on Monday night, April 27th at 7:30pm at the UNB pool (Room - A116). All swim parents are invited and highly encouraged to attend.
We will be discussing the future of our pool facilities in the city of Fredericton and sharing concerns that we currently share. This is a "top priority" item for all of us.
Please make every effort to attend.
(I realise that the timing is not great with the upcoming Team Champs, however, we need to proceed)
The Daily Gleaner is doing a story on this topic in Saturday's DG.
Thanks!

Marianne Limpert Timers needed
By now everyone is aware FAST is hosting the Marianne Limpert Team Champs from May 1-3,
so of course, we will need lots of timers. With 6 swim sessions and 18 timers required
for each session, it is clear that we will be asking every swim family to "time" at
least one session, so we do not have some families doing all 6 session.
For new swimmer families - this is a great opportunity to have a front row seat and
really be a part of the action. It is so much cooler to be on deck than to sit in the
VERY HOT stands.
This is also a great opportunity for High School Students to get their volunteer hours
whether it be for the Leadership class or for "non-academic" volunteer hours (for
scholarship applications).
Timing is not difficult and hopefully we can arrange a timers clinic for new timers the
week of Limpert. It should only take about a half hour of your time; also, we will be
doing a run through before each session for all new and returning timers.
It is very important that everyone step up and commit their time to this event in order
for it to be a success. Please let me know ASAP which shifts you are available to
time, so I can prepare a schedule.
Please email me at emartin@unb.ca or call me at 459-1974 to let me know or if you have
any questions.
Thank you,
Grace Martin
