Special AnnouncementsCURRIE CENTER Update - Road Closure
As the warmer weather comes our way, so does another construction season. The
construction of the Richard J. CURRIE CENTER at UNB has made quite a bit of progress
since the last letter you received.
You may have noticed that the building's construction has begun and this summer another
large tower crane will be brought on the construction site to erect the building's
large steel beams.
There are some upcoming construction activities that we want you to be aware of as they
will have an impact on your travels to and from your home.
Beginning June 1, the lower section of Mackay Drive will be closed for approximately
five weeks to install underground services. There will be no access for vehicles or
pedestrians from the north end of Mackay Drive to just north of Bailey Drive. In turn,
this will cause the entrance to parking lots for the Alumni Memorial Building and
Enterprise Buildings to be closed. All southbound traffic entering from Beaverbrook
Street must use Dineen Drive.
Also as of June 1, the section of Beaverbrook Street between University Avenue and
Waterloo Row will be closed to widen the street to three lanes. This portion of road,
sidewalk and walking trail will be prohibited to vehicles and pedestrians for
approximately three weeks.
The CURRIE CENTER is one of the largest single capital building projects in New
Brunswick's history. As one of UNB's students, faculty or staff, your input is
important to us and we invite you to contact us should you require further information.
We can be reached at rjcurriecenter@unb.ca.
We will continue to keep you informed about the construction as the project progresses.
For more details about the CURRIE CENTER visit http://www.unbf.ca/CURRIE.

An Injury prevention workshop
Hello Parents and Swimmer,
We just have put out the word on a workshop available to our swimmer. The workshop theme is hips and shoulders and it is designed as an injury prevention session. I highly recommend to attend. Please note that there is a limited number of participants and it is on the first come first serve basis.
AG1 Dry land is cancelled to allow swimmers to go to the workshop. the cost is $20.00 for UNB members or $25.00 for non members. You can register and pay on line or please let your coach know if you will be attending so we know how many swimmers we have coming.
Thank you,
Marta

CANADA GAMES TRIALS - REVISED SET UP & MEET PACKAGE
FYI below about the Canada Games Trials..
Heather
Hello SNB representatives,
Attached is the most up-to-date and FINAL version of the Meet package for NB Spring Classic/Canada Games Trials. The coaches suggested changes that they felt would be in the best interest of the swimmers, and the Technical Committee OK'd the suggestion of the Coaches. All head coaches were in agreement that this will be the best event order to benefit the athletes.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY THROUGH THE DETAILS! This is the final copy and there will be no further changes. This is the version posted on the SNC and SNB websites. Please make sure to throw out/delete older copies of the package/set up file and just use the attached. Also, please pass on to anyone in your club that needs this info (Team Managers, etc).
Special Olympic events are in the same spots they were originally.
Thanks,
Robin

Hi Everyone,
A HUGE Thank You to everyone who gave time on the weekend to time at Team Champs. It is
greatly appreciated and you really made my job as timer coordinator easy. Although some
sessions were long, I hope everyone enjoyed it from a front row perspective. We had
some timers there for 5 and 6 sessions and parents who have children not yet at a
competitive level. This is terrific!!
Thank you and see you at the pool!!!!

Message to Pool User Groups from Bob Skillen
Hi Folks,
I am forwarding the following letter sent to Paula Crutcher to all our Fast families for your information.
Heather
Subject: Pool Update
>Dear Paula,
>Our partnership group (the City, the YMCA, STU and UNB) met by phone
>with pool consultant, Wendy Donovan, yesterday morning. Wendy
>reviewed with us her preliminary needs assessment findings. While we
>agree that there is much more work to do in determining our
>community's aquatic needs including having more consultations with
>user groups, the LSDs and three levels of government, we did have
>enough information to come to an agreement that the YMCA should
>proceed with its application to Building Canada for funding to
>support the construction of a new YMCA. Wendy's assessment of the
>YMCA site is that it is not large enough to accommodate a regional
>pool thus the decision taken to support the YMCA moving ahead with
>its application (their Albert St Y will include a pool that will
>serve its members and help to resolve some of our community aquatic
>needs but not all).
>
>The next step is for each of our organizations to do some homework
>before we come together, likely in June, to move this conversation
>forward. Once we have a clearer sense of how we want to proceed we
>will re-engage the user groups in the discussion. As I mentioned to
>your group at our last meeting, it would be helpful for the swimming
>community to identify a spokesperson with whom we can communicate as
>we move this important community agenda forward.
>
>Please pass this information on to the user groups and let them know
>that we will provide them with an update in June and reassure them
>that they will be consulted as we go forward.
>
>Many thanks,
