FAST celebrates another great year

Hi Folks,

The Fredericton Aquanauts Swim Team had their Year End Celebration Banquet this week. We honoured our top swimmers in each age group with awards as well as celebrated our Most Improved Swimmers. We had a fantastic first year under our new Head Coach Marta Belsh. Our swimmers made dramatic improvements in both time and ability. Our club size has grown significantly. We started the year with only 100 swimmers and have had 160 registered throughout the year in both our competitive and non competitive programs...

Our swimmers won the NB Short Course Championships in Moncton, we were also part of the winning team at the Marianne Limpert Championships in May. We have four swimmers and a coach going to the Canada Games in PEI this summer (Danielle Losier, Monica MacDonald, Kaitlyn Young and Dylan Bartlett and Coach Marta Belsh as the team's assistant coach). FAST swimmers were recognized at the Swim NB Awards in Tracadie on June 13th for their top 1, 10 and over all top swimmers in the province. Cassidy Richards won the Swim NB award for the top 11-12 Female Swimmer for 2008-2009. Danielle Losier picked up the award for top 15-17 Female Swimmer for this year as well.

Our Fast Swimmer awards were given to the swimmer with the highest FINA points score for  2008-2009. Those winners are as follows:

Top 11-12 Female: Kassidy Bartlett
Top 11-12 Male: Eric Meng
Top 13-14 Female: Lauren Adam
Top 13-14 Male: Alex Horwood
Top 15-17 Female: Kaitlyn Young
Top  15-17 Male: Mark Garland
Overall Top Female: Danielle Losier
Overall Top Male: Dylan Bartlett

We also give an award to a swimmer who serves as an inspiration to the other swimmers. This swimmer is a role model to her peers..

Most Inspirational Swimmer: Bryna McMurtrie

We always celebrate the swimmers with the greatest improvement through-out the entire year.

Most Improved Rookie: Lonnie Park
Most Improved Swimmer: Jon Reid

This year we started a new tradition of honouring our Coach of the Year. Dominique Legault was the winner for her fantastic work with our Age Group 3 swimmers.

This year we are saying goodbye to our five FAST swimmers who are finishing High School and moving on to University. Those swimmers are: Rosemary Judd, Danielle Losier, Monica MacDonald, Chris Garcelon and Sam McGinn.

Thanks again,
Heather Horwood
