Wow...what a great day!!

In the past few years this 10 and under fun meet has been held in Tracadie...long way to travel for your child's first meet!!

This year we decided to give it a try...and I would have to say it seemed to be a success...what a better place to give competitive swimming a try, or to try and improve your times, than your own pool.

I would like to give a BIG Thanks....(too many to name individually but you know who you are...) to all the parents that gave up their Sunday to come help make this meet a success even when they did not have a child in the water swimming!! Thanks go out for all the work before, after and during the meet.

Thanks to Per & Nancy Paasche for volunteering to be referee and starter. This meet would not have been possible without them. Referee is a high level job requiring special training beyond anyone in our club at present, although we are working on it.

Thanks also to the kids themselves who were not swimming in this meet, for giving up their Sunday as well to come help...We couldn't have done it without them as !! They helped with timing, doing the bell heats & prizes, canteen, hospitality, set up and take down. They were great!!

To all the parents of swimmers who helped with timing and marshalling and canteen and hospitality, set up and take down... and anything else ...thank you as well. Most of you were first time helpers and I hope we'll see you back at our next meet .There really is no better seat in the house than when you are timing. You become a part of the action! At any meet throughout the province you are always welcome to time or help out. We had officials today helping from other clubs.

The Canteen and Hospitality were both a success. Thanks for the many donations that were received. And Thanks for the people doing these tasks. After expenses for the meet are paid, any revenue from programs, canteen sales and meet fees all go back into the team. All our fundraising goes towards the whole team not select groups.

Can't forget as well.......Big thanks to the great coaches we have in our club.....great job today guys!!!  Coaching very young kids at something like this can be difficult but I think they all handled it exceptionally well.

Thanks so much to all that helped make this meet fun and successful!!!
See you all next year!!!

Michelle Reid

Thank you!

To all FAST families,

I just wanted to say a big thank you to all the kids and parents that were able to help out with the fundraiser at NBLC this past weekend.  It was a great success and we raised $2400.00 to support the kids in our club.  A special Thanks to Gabriella Belsh who did 3 shifts on Saturday! And Veronica who did 2 shifts! You are awesome! Great work everyone.

See you at the pool!

Donations

Hello FAST families,

Thank you very much to all the parents who contacted me and are willing to donate the food and beverage items to the canteen and hospitality. I sent the confirmation e-mails to each individually. If you would still have any questions, please let me know. I think we are going to be well stocked this coming Sunday!

Just a reminder that I'll be in pool tonight from 6:00-8:30pm and Saturday evening to set up room A116 from 6:30-7:30pm and on Sunday morning from 8.30 am on and you can bring the donations at one of these times.

See you all soon!

Best regards,

Ivana Vukic-Lepir

FUN Meet

Hi Everyone,

We just wanted to let all the parents and swimmers know that Fun Meet has been timed out to roughly 2 pm. This means that all swimmers and parents will be at the pool or on deck roughly four and half hours. This amount of time is substantial for anyone let allow swimmers that are racing. So we please ask that plan according and ensure that your swimmers have food and something to drink, along with other swim and team gear.

See you all on deck Sunday,
FAST

Message to parents

Good Morning parents,

It has come to my attention that there are some questions and concerns regarding the upcoming fundraiser at NB Liquor.  We realise that parents may be uncomfortable with this type of fundraiser and want to assure you that it is not our intent to pressure parents to participate in this situation.  We have another way that parents can contribute this weekend and that would be to provide supplies that were requested for the 10 and Under meet at UNB on Sunday. Many of us will be working and contributing to this meet and our children will not be swimming.

There have also been fundraisers at the Canadian Tire store and requests to sell extra Valuestar tickets during the year, but unfortunately these efforts have also been very poorly supported.  Fundraising is an essential part of our budget.  Swimming is a very expensive sport and the majority of our revenue goes towards our pool time and coaching costs.  An hour at the Fredericton Indoor pool, for example, costs $50.00 and we pay for every lane that we use at UNB. None of our fundraising has gone specifically towards supporting high level swimmers.  In the past, when we have had sufficient funds, we have been able to allocate $9000.00 towards a a Swimmer Funding Model. In this model we allocate $3000.00 to the beginner levels, $3000.00 to the intermediate levels and $3000.00 to the higher levels.  The money is put towards coaching costs and meets fees so that ALL swimmers benefit.  We are hoping to be able to offer this model again next year.  Unfortunately we have had a number of high level swimmers graduate over the past 2 years and it takes 2 or 3 new swimmers to make up for the equivalent revenue that one of those swimmers would have brought in. Another alternative, of course, would be to increase fees but we have always been very reluctant to do this as we are striving to keep swimming as affordable as we can and accessible to all.

We have also noticed very poor attendance at some of the parent's meetings and the Semi-Annual Meeting in particular.  It is very important to make an effort to attend these meetings as many questions and concerns can be raised by the parents and addressed by the coaches or board before they become an issue. They also provide us with valuable feedback.

We will be making some decisions over the next few weeks regarding the budget for the 2010 -2011 season as well as our major fundraisers.   We encourage any new ideas or thoughts on this important task. Please let us know what types of fundraisers you would like to support and which you would rather not have. We value your input and will also be asking you to complete a survey before the end of the season.  I want to assure you that evermember of the board is working very hard every day to bring you the best quality swimming program at the lowest cost.

Thank you for your time,
Jenny Adam

Fast Members

Hello Parents and Swimmers,

We are looking for your help with the upcoming fundraising event. All the money collected is going straight back to the club towards various requirements of our program. We need the funds to provide the quality program that your children enjoy. The funds are also helping us to keep some of the costs down.

One of the member responsibilities is to help us out during events like this. There is very minimal involvement required and it only takes a couple of hours where most of the work is done by our swimmers (it can't get better than this) as parents are only supervising the swimmers. There are many different time slots to choose from.
Please give us a hand.  Please email Cheryll

Thank you very much to the families that responded to my request for help, unfortunately I didn't get many responses.

Please see attached updated list and please help as much as you can. It is not a big meet (as the one we had in November) but still we need to provide Canteen and Hospitality services.

Later in the week I will send info when and where you can bring your donations. I will also send a reminder to each individually what you agreed to provide.

Looking forward to hear from you.

Thank you very much, your help is very much appreciated.

On-line clinics

 Hello everybody,

Just recently two clinics for swimming officiating become available on-line; they are Level I (Timekeeper & Safety Marshall) and Level II (Stroke and Turn).

You can view the clinic on-line then take the quiz on-line as well.  It is possible to review the clinic material when you are taking the quiz, and the pass grade on the quiz is set at 80%.

The on-deck evaluations will still have to be completed before the official is certified in the position.

This is a pilot to see if the system will work for us and if it will be used. If this works well, we can make more clinics available.

Anybody who still didn't do Level I clinic can do that, Level II clinic only people who have Level I completed and were evaluated on deck can take.

This is a great opportunity for everybody to take (one of) these two clinic as we have a swim meet coming April 18 and on deck evaluations can be done while the information is still fresh. If you are interested, please let me know and I will give you further instructions.

Thank you very much.

FUN meet help!

Hello FAST families,

As you've seen in one of the previous e-mails we would need some help in running this coming FUN meet.

To run the meet properly we have to organize hospitality, which means that we have to provide food and beverages to the timers, officials and coaches while the meet is going on in the pool. In order to do that we need to have at least three people working in hospitality. People helping with hospitality are organizing donated food and beverages for the meet room (where all the timers and officials are meeting before and after the heats) and serving them while they are on the deck.

The other component involving food around the swim meet is canteen. Canteen is a great fundraising opportunity for the club and is set up in the entrance hall. We would need two people helping. People involved with canteen are organizing donated food and beverage items and selling to the public along with the programs for the meet.

Senior swimmers who are not participating in this meet are very welcome to help out, but we need at least one adult to be involved with Canteen. If you can help, please let me know.

Please see table attached with items that we would need to run the Canteen and Hospitality.

Thank you very much; your help is much appreciated.

Hi Everyone,

We have a big fundraiser coming up April 15 – 17, 2010 at the Liquor Store on Prospect St. (next to Sobey's).  This brings in a lot of money for our club but only if we have everyone's help.  Please look at the attached schedule and let me know when your swimmer can help out.  As before, I would like one parent for each shift to stay with the swimmers.  So call a friend and double up! Two swimmers per shift will make it more fun.  Thanks for your help and we will see you at the pool.  Please send response to Cheryll at penney@nbnet.nb.ca

Reminder- Fun Meet deadline is April 5th
Below is the list of swimmers who so far signed up for the meet. Thank you to those who emailed me events, please note coaches will talk to swimmers during the practice and will help swimmers choose their events.
Note to the parents- as we anticipate a lot of swimmers coming to this meet we need your help running the event. If your child's name is on the list you are expected to help us out. There is many positions you can do and choose from (timing, officiating, canteen, set up and clean up) Please contact Michelle Reid mreid2215@rogers.com
to sign up. This event will be only successful if we have enough parents to help us run it. Your help and involvement will be greatly appreciated.
