FAST News - Long Course Training in Saint John - June 13th - 14th

There will be Long Course training in Saint John June 13-14th.  The sessions are

8:15pm-10:15pm - Friday, June 13

6am-8am - Saturday, June 14

4:30-6:30pm- Saturday, June 14

Anyone racing Long Course this summer should be taking advantage of this training.

If you are going to be participating and would be like to stay with the team on Friday night please send an email to me by this Wednesday June 4th so we can decide if we will try and organize team rooms and travel.

FAST News - SwimNB dinner and top ten camp

A reminder to anyone wanting tickets for the SNB dinner and camp. Requests must be in by tomorrow May29th.

 

Please indicate exact number of dinner tickets including any that are free.

 

Please indicate if you are going to attend the camp as well.

 

Money can be left at the pool office cheques made out to FAST.

FAST Swimmers make a huge Splash at Team Aquatics Supplies Long Course Classic Swim Meet and break 2 NB Records

Twenty four swimmers from the Fredericton Aquanauts Swim Team competed this past week-end at Team Aquatic Supplies Long Course Classic Meet at Saint John’s Canada Games Aquatic Centre against 300 swimmers from NB, PEI, Quebec and Massachusetts. Our Swimmers brought home 26 gold medals, 19 silver and 10 bronze medals for individual and team relays in the first NB Long Course meet of the season.

Danielle Losier, Monica MacDonald, Danielle Merasty and Kaitlyn Young, our 15 and over girls’ team, won the 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay and broke the NB 15-17 age group long course record with a time of 4:15.63. They broke the record set by CVAC on 07/07/2006.

Danielle Losier was a multiple record breaker this weekend. She also broke her own 50 meter breaststroke NB 15-17 and Senior Long Course Record with a time of 34.46. Miss Losier was the top FINA point’s winner of the meet with that double record breaking swim. She won 5 individual gold medals and was part of both gold medal relay teams.

Awards were also given to the top swimmer in each age group. Danielle Merasty won the 15 and over category with gold medals in each of her 6 individual events as well as 2 relay team gold medals. Other gold medalist include: Cassidy Richards, Katarina Schatz, Lauren Adam, Kaitlyn Young, Mark Garland, Jon Reid, Chris Garcelon and Rene Boudreau.

Kaitlyn Young will join several of her teammates at Age Group Nationals in Calgary this summer after qualifying in the 50 Butterfly this weekend.

The following swimmers qualified in the morning for evening finals. Their final results are as follows:

11-12 girls:
Teague Foreman: 6th: 400 IM, 8th: 50 butterfly
Cassidy Richards: 1st: 50 butterfly, 3rd: 50 and 200 back, 6th: 50 free, 7th: 200 IM
Katarina Schatz: 1st: 50 free, 2nd: 50 and 200 back, 3rd: 200 free, 5th: 400 IM, 6th: 200IM

13-14 girls:
Lauren Adam: 1st: 50, 100 and 200 breaststroke, 3rd: 200 IM, 5th: 50 fly, 400 free

Lauren Heffernan: 7th: 100 fly, 8th: 50 breast

FAST News - Age Group Nationals in Calgary (July 25th - 28th)

Hi everyone,

I am looking into plane tickets for Age Group Nationals in Calgary in July.  I would like to have anyone interested in going to Calgary to come to a short meeting on Tuesday At 6:30 at the pool.  I will have prices etc.

If your swimmer is does not have their Age Group time yet but are close, you should attend the meeting as well.

FAST News - A Successful Saint John Long Course Invitational

I'd like to take a moment to thank everyone involved for making the meet a success for our swimmers. There was a lot ot team spirit in evidence, and everyone really enjoyed themselves.

Thanks to Paula and Andrew for coaching the kids, Ron and Wandlyn Richards for chaperoning and everyone who helped with officiating.

FAST News - Head Coach Announcement

I am very pleased to announce that Marta Belsh has accepted in principle the position of Head Coach of the Fredericton Aquanauts Swim Team.

Marta will be coming to us from the Barrie Trojan Swim Club north of Toronto. She is a level 3 coach with extensive high level experience at the National and International Level. As well, she has also coached and was responsible for Barrie's pre-competitive swim program.

Marta brings with her 11 years of coaching experience as well as her own experience as a National-level swimmer in her native Poland. Marta will be re-locating to Fredericton from Barrie with her husband and two daughters and will be officially on deck mid to late August. Until then, Marta will be working closely with Paula to ensure that the team is well prepared for the new season. Marta's leadership and passion for swimming was evident and will be an asset for FAST and swimming in New Brunswick for years to come. The board will be working diligently over the next few weeks to finalize the details of Marta's contract.

I would also like to thank Paula Crutcher who has seamlessy taken on the role of head coach in the interim and is doing an excellent job on all accounts. THANK YOU Paula!!!

FAST News - SJ Meet Bus Departure Time update

The bus will be leaving for Saint John from the UNB Pool at 7:15am on Friday morning. This is a change from the originally stated time of 6:30am. Warm ups start at 9:00am. Everyone should be on deck and ready to go at that time.

Those staying with the team will be at the Delta hotel.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Please pass all of this information on to your clubs ASAP. With our Special Guest Marianne Limpert, it would be great to have a large turnout for the banquet and the Top 10 camp. It is always a great experience for swimmers from around the Province to get together and train/socialize.

I have attached the Top 10 camp info, banquet info/ticket order form, as well as a list of the Top 1 in NB, who will all receive a free ticket to the banquet.

I would suggest each club put 1 person in charge of ticket orders and send the orders all in to me together- it will make it easier for all of us!

Also- reminder to send in your nominations for Volunteer, Media and Sponsorship awards!!!!!

FAST News - Level I Clinic in Saint John

Gary Losier will be conducting a Level I Officiating Clinic (Timekeeper & Safety Marshal) at 4:00 p.m., Friday, May 23rd at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre. Please download your clinic material and questionnaire and let Gary (glosier@quispamsis.ca ) know if you will be attending.

Would you please pass the above info to any of your club’s parents who will be at the TAS Long Course Classic this coming Friday. This will be an opportunity for them to get their  clinic and finish their Level I evaluations all in one week-end.

FAST News - Saint John LC Classic - Transportation Information

The bus will be leaving from the UNB pool at 6:30 am on Friday morning. Anyone who wants to use this transportation is welcome, we will figure out the cost later. I'm thinking that $15 one way would be about right.

Job:  Village /08 Kitchen Help, Life Guard, & Chapter Administrative Assistant

Weeks  - 10 weeks

Job Description:

A ) Camp responsibilities :
    * Work with the Camp (Village) Cook to assist in meal preparations as needed over the 28 days of the camp;
    * Assist camp Staff with other aspects of the camp if time allows work in cooperation with the Interchange Program Leader and Parents to organize  the hosting plans for this program

    * Life Guard duty at swim times
    * Work with chapter and YsMen on clean up and repair projects at Camp Magaguadavic Lake

B) Chapter Administrative Assistant:
    * Assist with the Que. -Fredericton Interchange; staff 1-2 night Mini-camp
    * Assist leaders of International Programs in their preparations as appropriate
    * assist with planning for the  Annual General Meeting
    * assist with Village ( camp) planning  /assist various committees
    * membership data base & follow-up
    * otheradministrative tasks as appropriate to skills and ability of student and needs of chapter.

Terms of employment:
    * The Federal grant requires that the employee was a full time student during the 07-08 academic year and intends to be a full time student in Sept 08

    * Hours of employment although full time need to be fulfilled in a flexible schedule ie some weekend and evening time

    * Current Life Guard certification
    * capable of working Independently, take initiative, problem solving skills, able to seek direction/assist when needed

    * workplace is variable but 4 weeks would be on the Village (camp) site with accommodation provided
    * start date - to be determined with the applicant

FAST News - National and IP Group Dryland Reminder from Paula

Fast Swimmers Race in Capital City

Three swimmers from the Fredericton Aquanauts were chosen to attend the Tri-Meet held at the University of Ottawa this past weekend, May 10 and 11th. Lauren Adam, Katarina Schatz and Kaitlyn Young were all selected as one of the top four swimmers in their age group from the Atlantic Provinces to attend and compete in the Tri Meet training camp and swim competition. The Atlantic Provinces team competed against teams from Ontario and Quebec.

The swimmers attended an intensive three day long course training camp at the University of Ottawa followed by a two day meet. The swimmers were successful, winning a silver medal and 4 bronze against the best swimmers from Ontario, Quebec and the rest of the Atlantic Provinces.

Their results are as follows:

• Lauren Adam (12 year old age group): 3rd: 50 and 200 breaststroke, 800 free, 6th: 50 free.
• Katarina Schatz (12 year old age group): 4th: 50 and 200 back, 6th: 50 butterfly, 400 free.
• Kaitlyn Young (15 year old age group) : 2nd: 100 butterfly, 3rd: 100 breaststroke, 4th: 200 breaststroke, 5th: 100 freestyle, 200 butterfly.   

FAST News - Saint John Meet Revised List

The amended list is as follows. Could you please let me know (those not staying with the team) how many others would be taking advantage of the bus transportation.

 

The bus will leave UNB early Friday and return Sunday night.

 

As I try to get an educated estimate of costs for the meet, this would help me allocate the bus rental charge. Parents are also encouraged to use the bus, this will cut costs for swimmers as well.

To date, the list of swimmers for the Saint John Meet May 23 - 25th are as follows. Please let me know asap if there are changes or corrections as we are trying to get final numbers for the hotel and estimate costs. As it stands, it looks like accommodations and travel will be about $150/swimmer for the weekend.  We have room for a few more to travel with the team if anyone is interested.  Costs for swimmers not travelling with the team will be approximately $25 for coaches costs and $50-$60 for meet fees.

FAST News - Spring Long Course Classic - Saint John May 23rd - 25th

FAST News - Dryland Schedule Change for National and IP Groups

Dryland training for the remainder of the season will be help on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30-6:15.

Weight sessions will take place in the weight room Dryland workouts will be held in the Dance Studio.

Coaches will let swimmers know which program to participate in.
All IP Swimmers will be in the dance studio.

Sessions begin tomorrow (Tuesday, May 6th).

FAST News - Saint John Long Course Meet Info - Chaperones still required

Could everyone let me know by May 6th if their child is attending the Saint John meet please. I have to confirm the rooms by the 7th.

 

We are looking at renting a school bus for transportation, staying at the delta.

 

If we have 25 swimmers, 2 nights accommodations and transportation will be around $150. 

 

I still don't have chaperones for this meet. If nobody volunteers we will have to turn this into a parent meet.
