H1N1

Dear Swimmers/Parents/Coaches and Volunteers,

Currently Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 infection in Canada is causing mainly mild
illness, with symptoms similar to seasonal influenza, but they are seeing a
wide spectrum of disease.

We request that everyone in the club practise good hygienic principles;
frequent hand washing, and covering coughs and sneezes. Please do not share
water bottles or snorkels.

If you develop symptoms of an influenza-like illness(such as, fever and
cough, and one or more of the following; sore throat, body aches or fatigue)
we request that you stay home and seek medical attention, if necessary.

Swimmers are invited to rejoin practises after 7 days, or when they are
symptom-free and have resumed usual daily activities(whichever is shortest).

National Standards

Hello All:
Please note that the 2009-2010 SNC National Standards are now posted at: https://www.swimming.ca/NationalTimeStandards

The following note (or something to this effect) will be attached to the standards when posted on our Bulletin Board.
Through consultation with CSCTA, SNC has determined that there will be no changes to any of the national standards for the 2009-10 competition year. We're looking to do our best to stabilize the transition from technical suituse to the new FINA rule and wish to prevent as little disruption as possible with this transition..   Should you have any questions or concerns please contact Ken Radford.

Important! New Swimsuit Rule!!!

Fina Swimsuit rule to be implemented at the beginning of the Canadian swimming season
September, 17, 2009

Ottawa, ON – Swimming Canada announced that effective September 1, 2009, all swimwear worn in swimming competitions sanctioned under the authority of Swimming Canada must conform to the January 1, 2010 Fina swimwear approval guidelines.

"We want our athletes to start the season on the right foot," says Pierre Lafontaine, CEO and National Coach for Swimming Canada. "By implementing the rule in September, we are giving our athletes more time to adapt to the technology changes as they prepare for the big events this year."

Lafontaine says that this rule will not apply to Canadian swimmers competing outside of Canada before the January 1st international deadline placed by Fina. "We do want our swimmers to compete in a fair playing field."

This past summer, Fina, the governing body for International competitive swimming, announced new guidelines for competitive swimwear. The ruling came during the 2009 World Championships in Rome, Italy and includes the following specifications:

MATERIAL – The material of swimwear will definitively be constituted only by textile fabric(s). The FINA definition of "textile" currently is: "Material consisting of, natural and/or synthetic, individual and non-consolidated yarns used to constitute a fabric by weaving, knitting, and/or braiding."

SHAPE – MEN: swimwear shall not extend above the navel or below the knee. WOMEN: swimwear shall not cover the neck, extend past the shoulder, nor extend below knee. No zippers or other fastening system is allowed.

USE – Swimmers shall wear only one swimsuit, taping is not permitted.

CONSISTENCY – Swimwear effectively manufactured and used shall correspond to and be fully consistent with FINA approved samples. Any modification before use (including impregnation) is prohibited. Moreover, there shall be no variation/modification for individual swimmers.

A full list of Swimming Canada sanctioned competitions can be found at : www.swimming.ca/MeetList.aspx

Letter from Coach Marta

I would like to welcome all new and returning members to the 2009 - 2010 swim season.

I'm very excited to start my second season with the club and I know we'll have lots of fun and success along the way. We have had a very busy summer with preparations and racing at Canada Games. The Games were very exciting and a great experience for our participating swimmers Kaitlyn, Monica, Danielle and Dylan. Congratulations to you all and thank you for making us proud. You are a great inspiration to our younger swimmers.

The Board worked hard over the summer to get everything ready for this season. Registration will be held on Tuesday, Sept 8th for all pre-registered swimmers and families and on Wednesday, Sept 9th for general registration. Please come early as we have a limited number of spots in each group. You can find more detailed info and forms on our web site http://www.swimmingfast.com/

I would like to introduce our competitive coaching staff - Dominique Legault, Nick Cameron, Richard Macaulay, Monica MacDonald and Kirsten Johnston. Our Fishes coaches this season will be Shauna Manning, Melissa Hilchey, Veronique Leger, Danielle Merasty, Richard Macaulay and Danielle Losier. They are looking forward to meeting all swimmers on the pool deck. We have designed a program that will allow every athlete continued progress and success regardless of their ability and level of swimming. Our focus is to help all swimmers to reach their goals and go beyond their potential while having a fun and enjoyable experience. With that in mind, the path to success will be achieved with hard work, dedication, knowledge and an open mind.

Our mission is to deliver the best program for our swimmers that will help them to reach their dreams, make them better swimmers and help them to discover and realize their potentials regardless of their level of swimming or previous experience. We recognize that each swimmer is an individual and have their own needs. We will do our best to make it a fun and enjoyable experience for all.

With that in mind, on behalf of the coaching staff and Board, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our Club.

Marta
