Thank You

Thank you to all the FAST parents and coaches who attended the Capital Region Aquatic Facility Team presentation at City Hall today.  We were really impressed with the turnout (although I apologize if anyone had to stand outside and couldn't hear) but at least the committee realised how important this issue is to so many aquatic users. The presentation itself was very well received and we feel that the committee now has a good sense of the need for a new aquatic facility in the region.

We appreciate your support,

Jenny Adam

Important News

FAST swimmers, family and friends,

For months the Capital Region Aquatic Facility Team (C.R.A.F.T.) has been working hard to educate the general public and promote the building of a new aquatic centre for the Fredericton region.  We have been granted an opportunity to make a 15 minute presentation to the Mayor and City Councillors in a closed door session.

A small group has prepared a short and appealing presentation for this meeting.  We are, however, looking for supporters!  We need concerned people (family and friends of aquatic user groups) to fill the room – just to be seen and not heard but to indicate that the pool shortage is a valid concern of many community members.

Please mark Thursday, June 10th at 12 noon on your calendars.  If you plan to attend, please e-mail me at adam111@nbnet.nb.ca to confirm your attendance.

Details:

We are scheduled to present to the Community Services Committee, which includes all councillors, on Thursday, June 10th at 12 noon in the Second Floor Committee Room, City Hall.  Arrival 15 minutes early is advised.

Thank you,

Jennifer Adam

Interim schedule

Hello Swimmers and Parents,

Due to the pool situation we are dealing with at UNB we had to reschedule practices for the upcoming week for Senior Group, AG1 and AG2 groups. For the week of June 7-12 we will have Mon, Wed and Fri practice 6:00-7:30am at FIP. At this point these are the only times we can have as the FIP is booked in the afternoons. Please plan to attend the practices especially if you are going to East Coast meet.
I will continue to monitor pool temperature at UNB and will let you know if there is any change for the better.
I apologize for the inconvenience but this is out of our control.

Marta

Hot Water Schedule - Change of Schedule

Hello Parents,

As mentioned in a previous email we are dealing with a hot water shutdown at the UNB pool due to construction on the Currie Centre. The hot water that heats up the pool will not be available until June 11th. Due to this situation we are postponing all practices for one week and extending our season by one week till June 25th. There will be no practices from June 5th to June 11th with the exception of swimmers who are getting ready for East Coast Championships as we are working on an interim schedule to possibly train at the FIP for a couple of days during next week.

Fishes and Fishes Advanced groups no practice from June 5th to June 11th, back in the water for 2 more practices to finish the session on Tuesday June 15th and Thursday June 17th.

Novice groups (1,2,3) no practice June 5th to June 11th, back in water on Monday 14th with regular schedule till June 25th.

AG3  no practice June 5th to June 11th, back in water on Monday 14th with regular schedule till June 25th.

AG1, AG2, Sen groups interim schedule during June 5th to June 11th, back to regular schedule on June 13th.

I apologize for the inconvenience.

Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions,

Marta

Power Bar

Servings:  24

2 cups whole wheat flour
½ cup packed brown sugar
¼ cup skim milk powder
¼ cup wheat germ
1 tsp. baking powder
1 ½ cup raisins or chopped dried apricots
½ cup unsalted sunflower seeds
2 eggs
½ cup vegetable oil
½ cup molasses
1/3 cup peanut butter

In bowl, combine flour, sugar, skim milk powder, wheat germ, and baking powder; stir in raisins or chopped apricots and sunflower seeds.  Combine eggs, oil, molasses and peanut butter; add to dry ingredients, blending well.

Spread in greased 9-inch square cake pan.  You can use parchment paper to line the pan—far easier to remove.  Bake in 350 degrees oven for 35 minutes or until browned and firm to the touch.  Let cool completely.  Cut in 24 bars.  Bars can be stored in airtight container for up to 5 days or frozen.

I hope you give this recipe a try and maybe we can get our swimmers hooked on these bars.

With sincere interest in the best for the swimmer,

Carole

Hot Water Shut Down

Dear Parents,

We have been informed today that the hot water shut down might take longer than originally planned (see the email below). There will be hot water in the showers on Thursday and we should have a hot water going into the pool starting Thursday night but not in the regular volumes. This should at least stabilize the water temperature and/or raise it up a little. Please be assured that myself and coaching staff are monitoring the situation on an almost hourly basis and if there is any sign that the situation is getting worse we will have to postpone some practices and extend the season for some groups. We'll send up an update on Friday afternoon.

For the moment practices are as scheduled, but we'll keep a close eye on swimmers and if they struggle because of the cold water temperature we'll do some dry land exercises with them instead.

Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions,

Marta

Subject: UNB Hot Water Shut Down

To all UNB pool user groups,

As you are aware the pool is currently under a hot water shut down. It has come to my recent attention that the hot water shut down for the pool will last longer then original date of the 5th. Due to the construction of the Currie Center the steam needed to heat the water for the pool will not be available until roughly the 11th to 14th. Unfortunately, due to the nature of construction they can not give us a concrete date. However, the hot water in the rest of the building will return in schedule.

As of this am the pool temperature is 76.6 compared to the normal 82.3 and will continue to drop over the next day to two days. We do have a contingency plan in place and hope that with the return of the hot water to the building on Thursday evening we can raise the temperature to 78. Along with that the air temperature will also return to 81. But with so many uncertainties we are unsure if the plan will work, but we will keep you informed of any new developments. We would ask until that time that you please use your discretion when keeping your athletes in the pool.

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Sincerely,
Dominique Legault
Interim Pool Coordinator

Hi Everyone,

Help! Did anyone find Will Penney's FAST t-shirt this past weekend at the meet in Saint John?  It says Penney on the sleeve so should be easy enough to spot.  Please e-mail me.  Thanks.
